QuizMania with Amber
A Wednesday afternoon comedy quiz at The Flying Handbag, hosted by resident drag host Miss Amber.
Resident drag host at The Flying Handbag, fronting the quiz, Thursday and Friday nights.
Miss Amber is a drag host built for a busy bar. At the Flying Handbag she is the face of the week: she runs the comedy quiz, hosts the Thursday and Friday nights and generally causes, in the venue's own words, mayhem. Her billing at the Handbag sums her up in a phrase she would approve of: simply fabulous.
A Miss Amber night is about the room as much as the stage. Expect banter with the regulars, games, a bit of singing along, and a host who keeps things moving while the bar does its trade. It is a good introduction to Blackpool drag if you want something more casual and cheaper than a full theatre-style show.
The name will ring a bell with long-time Funny Girls regulars. In 2017 a Miss Amber, then a Funny Girls dancer of more than 20 years and understudy to Betty Legs Diamond, starred in a new Tuesday night show at Funny Girls alongside the main summer production.
Miss Amber's regular nights at the Flying Handbag, 44 Queen Street, are:
The Flying Handbag is the only purpose-built gay venue in town, with a horseshoe bar, a cabaret stage and a roof terrace, so there is room to watch the show or step away from it.
Times and prices can change, so check before you go.
The Flying Handbag's website and social media pages list her nights each week. Check the venue's what's-on section for her latest shows.
