The best time to visit gay Blackpool
Pride, the Illuminations, Christmas and quieter months, and what each is like on the scene.
There is no bad time to visit, but each season feels different. Here is what to expect month by month.
Spring (March to May)
Quieter, cheaper and a good time for a first visit. Funny Girls opens its spring show, and the bars are busy at weekends without the summer crush. Late May bank holiday is the first big weekend of the year.
Early June: Pride
Blackpool Pride is the biggest LGBTQ+ weekend of the year, usually on the first full weekend of June. Expect a ticketed festival on the Tower Festival Headland, a Saturday-morning parade along the Promenade and a free street party in the Rainbow Quarter. Rooms sell out early, often with three-night minimums. See our Pride guide.
Summer (June to August)
The sweet spot for weather and atmosphere, with Funny Girls' big summer show, beach weather and long evenings on terraces and balconies. Weekends and bank holidays bring the largest crowds and the highest room prices.
Autumn: the Illuminations
The Blackpool Illuminations light up the seafront from early September to early November. In 2026 they were switched on on 4 September, with the full display running to 1 November and a shorter stretch with Christmas by the Sea running until 3 January 2027. Autumn weekends get very busy, so book early. Halloween brings themed drag shows across town; see our Halloween guide.
Winter (November to February)
The cheapest time to stay, and festive drag shows run from mid-November. New Year's Eve is a big night at Funny Girls. Some smaller bars cut their hours, so check before you go. In early February, the free Rainbow Weekend fills the bars with shows that raise money for Pride.
Our pick
June for the atmosphere, September and October for the lights at lower prices, and midweek in spring if you want the scene at a gentler pace.
