The gay Blackpool year: a seasonal calendar

Month by month through Blackpool's LGBTQ+ year, from the February fundraising weekend to Pride in June, the Illuminations and the Christmas drag shows, with bank holidays to plan around.

Blackpool's LGBTQ+ scene runs all year, but its rhythm follows the seaside seasons. Summer and the Illuminations bring the crowds, while winter weekends are cosier, cheaper and full of locals. Dates below are the ones known in October 2026. Where a future date hasn't been announced, we say so.

January

  • The Christmas season ends. The Illuminations and Christmas by the Sea run into the first days of January. In 2027 the lights' last night is Sunday 3 January.
  • Funny Girls runs a short January show, followed by its main spring production, which in 2027 opens on 21 January and runs into early May.
  • A quiet, cheap month for a midweek break, with good room rates.

February

  • LGBT History Month. Expect talks, history clubs and events across the town.
  • Rainbow Weekend. A weekend of free shows across the quarter's bars, usually in early February, that raises money for Blackpool Pride. Drag, cabaret, live music and karaoke run at venues from Garlands to the Flying Handbag, with collection buckets in many more. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced at the time of writing.
  • Pride heritage exhibitions. Two exhibitions celebrating twenty years of Blackpool Pride are due to open at Showtown and the Grundy Art Gallery in February 2027 and run until June.

March and April

  • Easter. In 2027 Good Friday falls on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March. Expect the first big weekend crowds of the year.
  • Spring shows at Funny Girls continue, and the theatres stage touring productions. Drag brunches pop up in town-centre venues.

May

  • Two bank holidays: Monday 3 May and Monday 31 May in 2027. Both bring busy weekends, so book early.
  • Funny Girls changes show. In 2027 a short spring party show runs over the weekend of 7 to 9 May, before the summer spectacular opens in mid-May.
  • Touring drag. Big-name drag comedians regularly play the Grand Theatre. In 2027, Myra DuBois is booked for 13 May.

June: Pride

  • Blackpool Pride is the biggest weekend of the LGBTQ+ year: a ticketed Friday dance night, the parade along the Promenade on Saturday morning followed by the main stage on the Tower Festival Headland, and a free community day on Sunday. It's usually held in early June, on the first full weekend. The 2027 festival dates hadn't been announced when we checked, but the Rainbow Quarter Street Party on Lord Street has been announced for 4 to 6 June 2027.
  • Pride Month brings fringe events at the library, Showtown and venues across the quarter, and the heritage exhibitions close at the end of June.

July and August

  • Peak summer. School holidays bring families and big crowds to the town. The quarter is busy every night, and Funny Girls' summer spectacular runs through the season.
  • August bank holiday: Monday 30 August 2027. One of the busiest weekends of the year in Blackpool, so book well ahead.

September

  • The Illuminations switch on in early September. In 2026 they lit up on Friday 4 September. The switch-on weekend is busy and accommodation fills fast.
  • Heritage Open Days in September have included free LGBTQ+ heritage tours at Showtown.

October

  • Autumn Illuminations weekends are some of Blackpool's busiest, especially Saturdays.
  • Halloween. Funny Girls runs a Halloween show from mid-September to the start of November, with Coven Queens in 2026. McGraths on Lord Street holds a Halloween drag takeover, and town-centre venues hold Rocky Horror-themed parties.
  • Bear weekends. Men-only venues have run bear and pup socials and themed weekends in October.
  • Fireworks. International fireworks displays light up the Promenade on some autumn evenings. They are weather-dependent and can be postponed.

November

  • Funny Girls runs special two-night shows and then opens its Christmas production in mid-November. In 2026 the Christmas show runs from 12 November to 3 January.
  • Christmas by the Sea opens on the Promenade in late November. In 2026 it runs from 21 November to 4 January 2027.

December

  • Christmas party season. The quarter's bars are full of office parties and festive drag. Book shows and Christmas meals early.
  • Bank holidays: Christmas Day, then Boxing Day falls on a Saturday in 2026, so the substitute bank holiday is Monday 28 December.
  • New Year's Eve. Funny Girls holds a New Year's Eve show that ends with a midnight countdown, and the Illuminations stay on until after midnight.

Bank holidays at a glance

Rest of 2026: Friday 25 December and Monday 28 December (substitute for Boxing Day).

2027: Friday 1 January, Friday 26 March (Good Friday), Monday 29 March (Easter Monday), Monday 3 May, Monday 31 May, Monday 30 August, and Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December (substitutes, because Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on a weekend).

When to come for...

  • The biggest party: Pride weekend in June.
  • Lights and atmosphere: an Illuminations weekend between September and early January.
  • The best value: a midweek stay from January to March, or in November.
