Blackpool and Lancashire Sexual Health Service (Whitegate)

The NHS sexual health service for Blackpool and Lancashire, with its main Blackpool clinic at Whitegate Health Centre.

The Blackpool and Lancashire Sexual Health Service is the NHS service for the whole of Blackpool and Lancashire, run by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. Its main Blackpool clinic is at Whitegate Health Centre, about two miles inland from the Rainbow Quarter.

What they offer

  • STI testing and treatment.
  • HIV testing, including confirmatory HIV and hepatitis tests.
  • PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) if you think you have been exposed to HIV.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination.
  • Contraception.
  • Services for young people.
  • Referrals for drug, alcohol and chemsex support.
  • Collection of home testing kits.

PrEP

PrEP has been offered through this service, but arrangements have changed in recent years. Ask about current PrEP access when you book rather than assuming it is available at your visit.

How to get in touch

Book by phone on 0300 1234 154, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, or book online through the service website. The same line books the monthly Phoenix Clinic for trans and gender-diverse patients.

Good to know

  • NHS sexual health clinics are free and confidential. You don't need to be registered with a GP, and your GP won't be told without your agreement.
  • If you need PEP, ring as soon as the line opens. PEP works best the sooner it is started and must begin within 72 hours. Out of hours, call NHS 111 or go to A&E.
  • If you are LGBTQ+ and would prefer a clinic in the quarter itself, Horizon LGBTQ+ on Dickson Road runs dedicated clinics, including a Tuesday evening clinic for men.
  • Prefer to test at home? Free postal kits are available online.
