Lancashire Police hate crime reporting

Lancashire Constabulary covers Blackpool and the Fylde. You can report hate crime directly or through a local third-party reporting centre.

Lancashire Constabulary is the police force for Blackpool and the Fylde coast. It treats homophobic, biphobic and transphobic hate crime seriously, and there are several ways to report.

How to report

  • 999 if it is an emergency, someone is hurt or in danger, or the offender is still nearby.
  • 101 for non-emergencies.
  • Online, using the crime and incident reporting form on the Lancashire Police website.

Third-party reporting centres

If you don't want to go to the police yourself, a third-party reporting centre can take your report or help you fill it in. You can choose to stay anonymous. In Blackpool these include:

  • Blackpool Transport, Rigby Road, FY1 5DD. Phone 01253 473001.
  • UR Potential, 296 Central Drive, FY1 5JW. Phone 01253 344398.
  • Lancashire LGBT. Phone 07788 295521.
  • Liberty Church Blackpool, a confidential place to report.

What happens next

When you report, the police should record it as a hate crime or hate incident if you or anyone else perceives it to be motivated by hostility. You should be offered support and kept updated. You can ask for a crime reference number.

Good to know

  • Report hate incidents too, such as name-calling, even when they aren't crimes. They help build a picture of what is happening on the streets.
  • Note the time, place, what was said and any descriptions as soon as you can, and keep photos, screenshots or messages.
  • For independent support, Galop's LGBT+ hate crime helpline is on 020 7704 2040.
