MindOut

An LGBTQ+-run mental health charity whose online chat support is open to adults anywhere in the UK.

MindOut is a mental health charity run by and for LGBTQ+ people. Most of its face-to-face services are in Sussex, but its online chat is open to adults anywhere in the UK, including Blackpool.

What they offer

  • Online chat support with LGBTQ+ volunteers, from Monday to Wednesday, 3pm to 5pm.
  • Each day has a focus:
    • Monday: chat with volunteers who are People of Colour.
    • Tuesday: chat with trans and non-binary volunteers.
    • Wednesday: general sessions open to everyone.
  • Advocacy, peer support and counselling, mainly for people in Sussex.

How to get in touch

  • Use the online chat on the MindOut website during opening times.
  • Phone 0300 7729855.

Who it's for

LGBTQ+ adults aged 18 and over.

Good to know

  • Online chat can feel easier than a phone call if you find it hard to say things out loud.
  • The chat isn't a crisis service and is only open for a few hours a week. If you need help now, call the Lancashire mental health crisis line on 0800 953 0110, Samaritans on 116 123, or 999 in an emergency.
  • For local face-to-face support, Horizon LGBTQ+ on Dickson Road and Lancashire LGBT both offer counselling and one-to-one support. Young people aged 11 to 25 can use Youtherapy's free counselling and drop-in.
