Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline
A free national listening and information line, by phone, chat and email, staffed by LGBTQIA+ volunteers.
Switchboard is a national LGBTQIA+ helpline run by volunteers who are themselves part of the community. It has been a lifeline for LGBTQ+ people for decades and is open to anyone in the UK, including Blackpool.
What they offer
- A listening ear when you want to talk to someone who understands LGBTQ+ lives.
- Information on anything from coming out and relationships to finding local services.
- Support by phone, web chat and email, so you can choose what feels most comfortable.
People get in touch about all kinds of things: questioning their sexuality or gender, family problems, loneliness, discrimination, or just needing a friendly voice. You don't need to be in crisis.
How to get in touch
- Call 0800 0119 100, free.
- Use the web chat or email through the Switchboard website.
Opening hours are listed on the contact page of the website. Check them before you call, as the line isn't open around the clock.
Good to know
- Volunteers won't judge you or tell you what to do.
- Switchboard isn't an emergency service. If you are in danger, call 999. If you need to talk to someone right now and Switchboard is closed, Samaritans are free on 116 123, 24 hours a day.
- For face-to-face support in Blackpool, Horizon LGBTQ+ on Dickson Road offers counselling and one-to-one support, and Lancashire LGBT has a directory of local groups.
