True Vision (Report It)

The national police-backed hate crime website, where you can learn about hate crime and report it online.

True Vision is the national hate crime information and reporting website, owned by the National Police Chiefs' Council. It is a straightforward way to report homophobic, biphobic or transphobic hate crime online, wherever you are in England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

What they offer

  • Clear information about what counts as a hate crime or hate incident.
  • Online reporting, which links you to the right police force. For Blackpool, that is Lancashire Police.
  • Information about support and third-party reporting, if you would rather not deal with the police directly.

When to use it

True Vision is useful if:

  • the incident has already happened and nobody is in immediate danger;
  • you would find it easier to write things down than talk on the phone;
  • you were visiting Blackpool and have since gone home.

It is not for emergencies. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999.

How to get in touch

Go to the True Vision website and follow the steps to report.

Good to know

  • You can also report to Lancashire Police directly on 101, or through a local third-party reporting centre such as Blackpool Transport, UR Potential, Lancashire LGBT or Liberty Church Blackpool.
  • Online hate, such as abusive messages or posts, can also be reported. Take screenshots before anything is deleted.
  • Galop's LGBT+ hate crime helpline (020 7704 2040, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm) can help you decide what to do and support you through it.
