The Prince Albert Hotel
A discreet, four-star, men-only hotel for gay and bi men on Yates Street, with no street signage and themed weekends.
What it is and who it welcomes
The Prince Albert, at 11 Yates Street, is a small, adults-only hotel for gay and bisexual men. It deliberately has no visible sign on the street, so look for the number rather than a name. It describes itself as four-star quality, and its guest ratings are consistently among the highest of any stay in the quarter.
It is men-only at all times. Midweek, clothing is optional in the shared areas. On many weekends the hotel runs ticketed themed events for particular crowds. It is aimed squarely at men who want a comfortable, well-run hotel where adult life is accepted rather than hidden, without the scale or late-night bar of Trades.
Rooms
Rooms are refurbished and fully en-suite, with showers and bidets. Each has:
- a smart TV with a DVD player
- air conditioning, plus an extra oil radiator for colder months
- a Lavazza coffee machine, a fridge and a well-stocked minibar
- a combination safe, an iron and an Alexa speaker
- free fast fibre WiFi
Room types include premium kings, standard kings and a compact bunk room for two. A few rooms are fitted with adult play furniture. If you would rather have a room without it, or specifically want one with it, say so when you book. Hairdryers are available on request.
Bar, breakfast and services
- The bar and lounge are open through the day and evening for residents. Drinks go on a tab card, and you settle up when you leave.
- Breakfast is served in the dining room. There is a cooked full English or a continental, and gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian choices are available. Mention dietary needs when you book.
- Light laundry and ironing are free on request.
- The hotel has also listed a sauna and massage among its guest facilities. Ask what is available during your stay.
Event weekends
The Prince Albert publishes a year-round calendar of themed weekends. Tickets cover Friday and Saturday nights, with Sunday as an optional extra, and are sold through an online LGBTQ+ ticketing platform linked from the hotel's site. The regular themes include:
- FFun weekends, the most frequent, with several in February and roughly one a month for the rest of the year
- BBBH weekends, about once a month
- Jock and Boots / Naked weekends, in spring and early summer
- Nude weekends, including a late-November weekend and a nude New Year
- Kink weekends, with dates announced through the year
Some big Blackpool weekends, including Pride in June, the August air show and the Illuminations switch-on, are run as clothing-optional non-event weekends with a two-night minimum. Book event weekends by clicking the highlighted dates on the hotel's booking calendar, not by entering dates by hand.
Location
From Yates Street it is a few steps to Lord Street. Hotel Neon is next door, Trades and Mardi Gras are a minute away, and Funny Girls and the Queen Street bars are about five minutes' walk. From Blackpool North station, turn right out of the main entrance, walk up the side of the station, carry on down High Street, cross Banks Street and Cocker Street, then turn left into Yates Street.
Accessibility
This is a period building, and all the bedrooms are on the first and second floors, reached only by stairs. There are no ground-floor rooms, and the hotel is not suitable for wheelchair users. Tell the hotel about any other special needs when you book.
