Kaos is back: Queen Street bar reopens after a 12-week refit

News: 11 July 2026 · Published 8 October 2026 · Venues

Kaos on Queen Street reopened to the public on Saturday 11 July after a 12-week transformation under a new owner.

The bar closed in April for the work, which went right down to the bones: new floors, toilets, bars and drainage. It was finished off with glitterballs and neon rainbow lighting. A pre-launch night on 4 July and a run of test nights came first. It wasn't quite finished, but nobody wanted to wait any longer to open the doors.

The new Kaos

  • relaunched as an LGBTQ+ bar and lounge
  • open noon to 8pm six days a week
  • late nights until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays
  • new security team and new DJs

Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with people saying they feel welcome and safe there. Kaos has been part of the Queen Street strip for around a decade, so it is good to see it back.
