Rainbow QuarterBlackpool's inclusive quarter: everyone welcome

Red Bank Road

Bispham's high street and the northern end of the Illuminations.

Red Bank Road is the main road and high street of Bispham, in the north of Blackpool, running inland from the cliffs on Queen's Promenade. Bispham appears in the Domesday Book as Biscopham and became part of Blackpool in 1918.

The end of the lights

The Blackpool Illuminations run along the Promenade from Starr Gate in the south to Red Bank Road in the north. The cliff-top tableaux between North Shore and Bispham are among the best bits, and a walkway at Bispham lets you see them close up. A tram ride from the Rainbow Quarter to Bispham and back is one of the easiest ways to see the whole display. See the Illuminations and the quarter.

Around the street

  • Bispham tram stop is opposite Red Bank Road. Its northbound platform is in the old station building, with a café and toilets, and heritage trams call here.
  • Bispham's tram depot, built in 1898, once stood on the road.
  • The 1930s parade of shops at 90 to 104 Red Bank Road is locally listed, as is the Bispham Hotel.

Getting here

Take the tram north from North Pier to Bispham.
