Rigby Road
Home of Blackpool Transport and the historic 1935 tram depot, and a hate crime reporting point.
Rigby Road is just inland from the Promenade at Manchester Square, where the town centre gives way to South Shore. It is home to Blackpool Transport, which the council owns, and its depot.
The tram depot
Rigby Road depot was built in 1935 and holds up to 108 trams. It is described as the last working first-generation tram depot in the UK. Trams reach it by a spur from the Promenade at Manchester Square. All of Blackpool Transport's buses and heritage trams are based here, and in 2024 it announced plans to install chargers for a fleet of electric buses.
Heritage tours of the depot, under the name Tramtown, have run in the past, but tours and heritage tram services have been suspended at times for repairs, so check Blackpool Heritage Trams before you plan a visit.
Reporting hate crime
Blackpool Transport is a third-party hate crime reporting centre. If something happens on a bus or tram, you can report it to them on 01253 473001 rather than going to the police directly. See hate crime and staying safe.
Getting here
Take the tram to Manchester Square, just north of the depot junction.
