Rainbow QuarterBlackpool's inclusive quarter: everyone welcome

Edward Street

Home of the local Samaritans branch, with a rare 1860s terrace behind Abingdon Street.

Edward Street runs north to south through the town centre, linking Deansgate and Cedar Square, one street back from Abingdon Street. It was built up with lodging houses in the late 1860s.

Samaritans

The Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Samaritans are based at 16 Edward Street (FY1 1BA). Local volunteers answer calls day and night, and the branch has wheelchair access, a platform lift and accessible toilets. Call 116 123 free, any time. The branch also recruits and trains new listeners. See mental health support and volunteering.

Around the street

  • The west side keeps a domestic-scale terrace (numbers 12 to 28) with bay windows and front walls, an unusual survivor in the town centre.
  • The back of the listed former post office faces Edward Street, with its iron railings and lamps.
  • Abingdon Street Market has its second frontage here.
  • The 1976 telephone exchange on the corner has ceramic panels by Fritz Steller.

Getting here
