Rainbow QuarterBlackpool's inclusive quarter: everyone welcome

Central Drive

From the Tower area towards Bloomfield Road, home of the organisation behind the town's LGBT youth groups.

Central Drive runs south from Bank Hey Street and Albert Road, a little inland from the Golden Mile, towards Waterloo Road and Bloomfield Road. Steam trains once arrived alongside it at Blackpool Central station, so for generations it was the first street holidaymakers saw, with guest houses, rock and joke shops, chip shops and the main central car park. Part of it was once a lane running from Spen Green Lane, now Bloomfield Road, to Rigby Road.

LGBT youth groups

A youth and community organisation based on Central Drive, founded around 2010, runs the main LGBT youth provision on the Fylde coast, with groups for LGBT and questioning young people, a trans-only group and a family support group. It also runs the Blackpool Youth Council and is a third-party hate crime reporting centre, so young people can report to people they already know. See young LGBTQ+ people and hate crime.

Around the street

Locally listed buildings include the King Edward pub and the King Edward holiday flats, and Holy Cross Church. Bloomfield Road, Blackpool FC's ground, is at the southern end, about two miles from Blackpool North.

Getting here

The northern end is a few minutes from the Tower. For the southern end, Blackpool South station is about half a mile from Bloomfield Road.
