Rainbow QuarterBlackpool's inclusive quarter: everyone welcome

General Street

A quiet street just back from the sea, linking Springfield Road, Banks Street and Cocker Street, with Lawrence House.

General Street is the quiet one. It runs just behind the Promenade and joins Springfield Road, Banks Street, Cocker Street and Cocker Square, with Walker Street and Lansdowne Place off it. It is about 320 metres long and about a fifth of a mile from Blackpool North station, with the postcodes FY1 1RW, FY1 1SE and FY1 1SG. Much of it is flats, with a few hotels.

On the street

  • Lawrence House at 33 General Street is an award-winning, adults-only guesthouse for LGBTQ+ guests and their friends, with straight guests welcome too. It has home-cooked dinners and a roof terrace, and publishes an access statement.
  • The Philsden Hotel and Pelham Lodge are among the other small hotels here.

Parking

There is no council car park on General Street itself. The nearest are Cocker Square (FY1 1RX, which also serves the General Street side), Cocker Street (FY1 2BY) and Banks Street (FY1 2DT), all a couple of minutes away. See parking and arrival.

History

The Cocker Street sea-water baths, demolished around 1973, are remembered by one local as standing one street back, between General Street and Francis Street.

Getting here

From Blackpool North station, walk down Banks Street towards the sea and turn right.
