Springfield Road

Springfield Road climbs inland from the Promenade, just behind the Grand Metropole Hotel, crosses Dickson Road and Lord Street, and continues towards Abingdon Street on the town-centre side. General Street, Walker Street and Back Lord Street join it. It is about 370 metres long, about a fifth of a mile from Blackpool North station, with the postcodes FY1 1PZ, FY1 1QL, FY1 1QW, FY1 2AU and FY1 2BA.

The rainbow junction

The four-way junction of Dickson Road and Springfield Road was one of the first places to change under the council's Be Who You Want To Be plan. Rainbow crossings in Progress Pride colours were laid there in March 2024, the day after the two Dickson Road zebra crossings, and rainbow wraps went onto the lampposts nearby. Colourful planters followed. Since 2024 the Rainbow Quarter Street Party has run along Lord Street from Springfield Road to Cocker Street.

On the street

• Acqua Sauna at 25 Springfield Road is a men-only sauna, one of the town's two, with a dry sauna, steam room and hot tub. Some listings give a Lewtas Street address, but the door is on Springfield Road.
• Gin & Bear It is a small gin bar on the street, a short walk from Funny Girls.
• The rest of Springfield Road is lined with small hotels and guest houses.

The Metropole end

The Grand Metropole began as Bailey's Hotel, which opened in 1785, and it hosted the town's first council meeting. It is the only hotel on the sea side of the Promenade and sits on its own island, with Princess Parade running round its seaward side. Since 2021 it has been used as Home Office accommodation rather than as a holiday hotel, so treat it as a landmark rather than a place to book.

Getting here

From Blackpool North station, walk up Dickson Road to the rainbow crossings. From the sea, the North Pier tram stop is a short walk south along the Promenade.
